Our vision is to improve access to quality education for rural youth and support empowerment projects that create positive change and advance prosperity in our rural communities.

The Lelei Foundation (TLF) is a 501(c)(3) organization incorporated under the laws of the state of California whose purpose is providing charitable support for educational development and community empowerment projects in rural Kenya. We are dedicated to working together with rural communities to improve the quality of life for children and their families in a variety of ways but most importantly through education. We derive inspiration from the words of Nelson Mandela when he said: "education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mine worker can become the head of the mine, that a child of farm workers can become the president of a great nation.” (Nelson Mandela, Aug 23, 2022).

Our Mission and Vision

Children from rural Kenya quite often come from disadvantaged backgrounds and lack the resources to receive a good quality education that focuses on the whole child--the social, emotional, mental, physical and cognitive development. This can keep them from reaching their full potential and becoming active and valuable members of society as they age, thus exacerbating the problem of rural poverty. Our mission is to provide our rural youth opportunities for a good quality education that equips them well with the tools they need to succeed in life matters. Our vision is to empower our rural youth through a good quality education, improving the way they learn and grow, and giving them skills to think creatively and to problem solve in new ways that bring prosperity and advance society.
